Several Lagos districts cleaned up for World Cleanup Day — Premium Times Nigeria
Fidson Healthcare Plc, together with its employees and volunteers, carried out a cleanup in several districts of Lagos, Nigeria, as part of World Cleanup Day activities. Participants worked in the Obanikoro, Fadeyi, Palmgrove and Shomolu areas and spoke to residents about the need to keep the environment clean.
As Premium Times Nigeria reports, the initiative, called Project Clean Sweep 2026, was organized by Fidson in partnership with the African Cleanup Initiative. The Lagos Waste Management Authority also joined the campaign, with its public outreach team supporting the organizers.
Cleanup and environmental education
Adejoke Alli, Associate Director for Business Operations at Fidson Healthcare, said the company organized the event to help create a cleaner and healthier environment in communities near its head office. According to her, environmental sustainability is important to the company, and ESG principles are part of its governance system.

Tosin Shoboyeede, HR Business Partner at Fidson Healthcare, noted that a clean environment is one way to promote a healthy lifestyle. He described the cleanup as part of the company’s efforts aimed at supporting society and a cleaner environment.
Call for community participation
Alexander Kibe, founder and president of the African Cleanup Initiative, said the organization has been conducting environmental cleanups for 16 years and operates in Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. According to him, the cleanup was combined with an awareness campaign because without changes in people’s behavior, the result would not be lasting.
Volunteers also cleaned the area of a local market and spoke with traders. They urged residents, passers-by and business owners to keep the area around them clean. Volunteer Rachel Coker said regular sanitary cleaning can reduce contact with germs and diseases, as well as have a positive effect on psychological well-being.
