In Latvia, two Russian agents were sentenced to 5 and 6 years in prison
The Riga City Court found two defendants—Sergey Sidorov and Svetlana Nikolaeva—guilty of spying for Russia. They were sentenced to six and five years in prison, respectively.
According to the court’s ruling, Nikolaeva was also sentenced to two years of probation. Taking into account the time she has already spent in custody, she has two years and ten months left to serve. After his pretrial detention is credited toward his sentence, Sidorov must serve another three years and ten months behind bars. Both will remain in custody until the verdict becomes final.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Sidorov, motivated by ideological reasons, collected information about Latvia’s defense system, NATO activities, and support for Ukraine, knowing that this data would be passed on to Russian intelligence agencies. Investigators believe Nikolaeva was involved in passing on information and facilitating communication among the defendants in the case.
The investigation also established that the defendants were linked to the Telegram group “Baltic Anti-Fascists,” through which information of interest to Russian intelligence services was gathered.
