Latvia to hold Amber Blade military exercises
Latvia will hold the Amber Blade military exercises in the Ludza region from September 15 to 20. The maneuvres will take place near Ludza, Zilupe and Felicianova, LSM English reports.
Purpose of the exercises
According to Latvia's National Armed Forces, the purpose of Amber Blade is to strengthen the country's defense capability by improving the readiness of service members and National Guard fighters to carry out tasks in various terrain conditions.
Training outside the military training ground in Ādaži is intended to give units the opportunity to practice operations in a real environment. For this purpose, Latvia's road network, forests, meadows and other civilian infrastructure will be used.

Movement of equipment and restrictions
The main part of the exercises will take place in areas managed by the state forest company Latvijas valsts meži, as well as in municipal territories.
During Amber Blade, military personnel and equipment of Land Forces Mechanized Infantry Brigade units will move along public roads. The exercises will use armored personnel carriers, other vehicles, and unmanned systems in the air and on the ground. Local residents have been warned about possible temporary traffic restrictions on certain road sections and urged not to be alarmed by the movement of military personnel and National Guard service members.
