In Latvia and Estonia, warnings were issued about the threat posed by drones during Russia's attack on Ukraine

On the night of May 3, residents of several regions in Latvia and Estonia were warned of a potential drone threat. This occurred amid Russia’s large-scale attack on Ukraine. The Latvian National Armed Forces reported this on the social media platform X, and the Estonian Ministry of the Interior posted about it on Facebook.

On the night of May 3, heightened tension was reported in the Baltic states due to a potential drone threat. Residents of several regions in Latvia and Estonia received warnings amid Russia’s latest attack on Ukraine.

In Estonia, the danger alert was issued around 3 a.m. It was received by residents of Viru and Ida-Viru counties. People were urged to remain vigilant and respond to potential risks. By around 5:30 a.m., the Defense Forces reported that the airspace was clear and there was no threat. The alert was canceled.

The Ministry of the Interior explained that the warning was a precautionary measure. “The warning was issued in connection with Russia’s military actions against Ukraine and the risk of drones entering Estonian airspace,” the ministry stated.

A similar situation occurred in Latvia. Around 4 a.m., residents of several cities, including Aluksne, Balvi, Ludza, Rēzekne, and Krāslava, received notifications of a possible threat.

A few hours later, the Latvian military stated that the danger had passed. At the same time, they emphasized that the situation remains tense. “The National Armed Forces, together with NATO allies, are constantly monitoring the airspace. As long as Russian aggression against Ukraine continues, such incidents may recur,” the military reported.

Experts emphasize that such alerts are part of the security system. They allow for a rapid response, even if no actual threat ultimately materializes.

Russian drones also attacked the Mykolaiv region again overnight. Energy infrastructure was targeted, leaving some communities without power.

Additionally, the Zaporizhzhia region endured hundreds of air and ground attacks over the past 24 hours. There are casualties, including a child among the injured.

On May 2, Russian troops attacked Kherson and the surrounding region, killing two people and wounding 18 others.
