Latvia expels candidate Dalbiņš over posts about violence — LSM English

In Latvia, the executive committee of the National Alliance party decided to expel Valts Dalbiņš, a candidate in the elections to the 15th Saeima. The reason was his social media posts in which, according to LSM English, he justified violence against women and made prejudiced statements about them.

The party's position

In a social media statement, the National Alliance said that Dalbiņš had publicly expressed views incompatible with the party's values. The party's executive body decided to expel him from the party.

LSM English notes that in September 2025, Dalbiņš wrote on social network X that there are wives who should be beaten. In another post, he called women mentally unstable beings and stated that they bring death outside family life.

Election status

Dalbiņš is running for the 15th Saeima on the National Alliance list in Vidzeme under number 27. According to Latvia's Central Election Commission, he is the deputy head of the party's branch in Ķekava.

Expulsion from the party does not deprive Dalbiņš of the opportunity to participate in the elections. The Saeima Election Law provides that registered candidate lists cannot be withdrawn. Changes to them may only be made by the Central Election Commission in cases specified by law, including if a candidate is not eligible to run, has not resigned from a position incompatible with candidacy, has been nominated on several lists, or has died.
