A sensitive issue for Seoul
Lee Jae-myung wrote on social network X that he did not know why the Ukrainian side had decided to disclose this information, but called it very regrettable. According to him, the transfer of prisoners of war from North Korea to South Korea is an extremely sensitive matter that could significantly affect diplomacy, security and the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
The president also noted that there had been calls to announce the prisoners' arrival. At the same time, he said, the sides had agreed that, due to possible problems, the information should be kept confidential. Following Zelensky's statement, the South Korean opposition criticized Lee's administration because a foreign leader had announced the prisoners' arrival.
