Traffic arrangements to change in Limassol, Cyprus, during Popi Christoforou’s funeral
Special traffic arrangements will be introduced near the Holy Trinity Church in Limassol, Cyprus, on Thursday, where the funeral of Popi Christoforou will take place. Police expect a large number of people to come and pay their respects to her, Cyprus Mail reports.
The ceremony will begin at 14:00. Popi Christoforou was the mother of twins Miltos and Christos Christoforou, who served in the Cyprus National Guard.
Recommendations for ceremony participants
Police and Limassol’s municipal traffic department urged visitors not to drive to the church if possible. They were advised to use municipal parking facilities in the area around the church.
Available parking locations include the multi-storey municipal car park on Salaminos Street, municipal parking areas in Epichosi, and other city parking sites. Drivers who need to approach the church were advised to travel south along Zenonos Street. Only the eastern entrance to the church will be open to traffic.

Remembering the Mari tragedy
Popi Christoforou died on Sunday after a battle with cancer. She became prominent among the relatives of the 13 people who were killed on July 11, 2011, in an explosion at the Evangelos Florakis naval base in Mari. She lost both of her sons in the tragedy.
After the explosion, Christoforou sought accountability and justice. She left detailed instructions for her funeral: she asked those attending to wear white and requested to be buried in her father’s grave rather than at Sfalangiotissa cemetery, where her sons are buried.
Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides called her a symbol of inner strength, dignity and determination. The Limassol municipality described Christoforou as a mother who became a symbol, while Speaker of the House of Representatives Annita Demetriou said Cyprus had lost a heroic mother who became a symbol of the Mari tragedy.
