In Lithuania, a man was convicted of desecrating the Ukrainian flag and damaging a car
In Lithuania, a court sentenced the man to three months in prison.
He was found guilty of desecrating a state symbol of Ukraine, inciting hatred against a national group, and disturbing public order, as well as damaging a vehicle.
LRT reports on this.
The Panevėžys District Court handed down the sentence this week, combining the new 50-day term with a previous sentence.
The defendant, 28-year-old Lukas Vaichekonis, who worked as a driver for a ride-hailing service in Panevėžys, was found guilty of stealing a Ukrainian flag from the building of the Special Investigation Service in the city and damaging a car with Ukrainian license plates.
As noted, the incident occurred in June 2024. During the night, the officially raised Ukrainian flag was removed from the building. Later that same night, it was found in another part of the city, stuck in the smashed window of a Toyota car with Ukrainian license plates.
After his arrest, Vaichekonis confessed that he had removed the flag and placed it in the car, smashing all its windows with a hammer. He admitted that he had chosen this car specifically because of its Ukrainian license plates.
The car belonged to a Lithuanian man who had settled in Ukraine before the war and started a family there.
