The Netherlands celebrates King's Day

In the Netherlands, King’s Day is celebrated on April 27—a national holiday marking the birthday of King Willem-Alexander, who turned 59 this year.

Traditionally, the country’s residents wear orange clothing—the color of the House of Orange. Homes are decorated with flags and ribbons, and festive decorations even appear on public transportation.

This year, the royal family is visiting the city of Dokkum, where they are participating in the celebrations and interacting with citizens.

Mass events are taking place across the country, and April 27 is an official holiday. The largest crowds traditionally gather in Amsterdam—last year, over 600,000 people celebrated there.

In some cities, particularly in Breda, traffic in the city center was temporarily restricted due to the influx of people.

The holiday has a long history: it was established in the 19th century as Princess’s Day, later transformed into Queen’s Day, and since 2013, following Willem-Alexander’s accession to the throne, it has been King’s Day.

The Dutch Prime Minister discussed Ukraine, Iran, and security with Trump.

The Netherlands declined to participate in the unblocking of the Strait of Hormuz.
