A court in Moldova has issued an arrest warrant for a pro-Russian oligarch on the run

The Chisinau District Court has granted the prosecutor’s office’s request to impose a 30-day detention on oligarch Ilan Shor in connection with the case involving the illegal financing of the ALDE political party. Investigators accuse Shor of attempting to gain control over the country’s political processes using funds from an organized criminal group.

The court’s decision was reported by newsmaker.

According to law enforcement officials, Shor attempted to finance a pro-European political force through intermediaries. Specifically, it is alleged that he offered party leader Arina Spataru to lead a political project with financial support from his network. As part of the investigation, the transfer of $50,000, 100,000 lei, and special communication devices for coordinating actions with the client was documented.

Since Ilan Shor is currently in hiding in Russia, Moldovan authorities have sent a request for international legal assistance to the Russian side to formally notify him of the charges. The oligarch, who has already been convicted in a case involving the embezzlement of a billion dollars, continues to use the aggressor’s resources to destabilize the internal situation in Moldova through political structures under his control. Investigative actions in the new case are ongoing.

Authorities in Moldova raided the homes of supporters of pro-Russian oligarch Shor.

Moldova’s Central Election Commission denied registration for the parliamentary elections to the pro-Russian “Pobeda” bloc, led by fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor. The decision was adopted by a majority vote.
