Ukrainian flag removed from town hall in Lublin — TVP World
The Ukrainian national flag, which had been flying at the Lublin City Hall in eastern Poland since 2022 as a symbol of solidarity following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, has been removed from the building. The city government’s decision was a reaction to the awarding of an honorary name linked to the Ukrainian Insurgent Army to one of the units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
This was reported by TVP World.
Representatives of the Lublin city government stated that this move is “directly linked” to a recent decree by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The decree concerns the conferral of the honorary title “in the name of the Heroes of the UPA” on the “North” Special Operations Center of the Special Operations Forces (SOF) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Lublin City Council called such symbolism unacceptable to the Polish side.
“Glorifying formations responsible for crimes against the civilian population harms our nation’s historical memory, wounds the memory of Polish victims, and hinders the establishment of a sincere dialogue between our countries,” the city’s statement reads.
At the same time, the document emphasizes that the city is not withdrawing its support for ordinary citizens: “Despite this decision, Lublin remains an open and hospitable city, committed to the values that have long defined its international cooperation.”
Earlier, Poland warnedRussia of the consequences of strikes on diplomatic missions in Kyiv.
As a reminder, the aggressor country, Russia, will continue to strike Kyiv, which the Russians traditionally refer to as retaliatory strikes.
The Russian Foreign Ministry announced its intention to carry out “systematic strikes” on Kyiv, claiming that the targets would allegedly be facilities involved in the development, production, and use of Ukrainian drones.
