German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that he and his wife had stockpiled water, food, and other essentials in advance in case of a possible war or emergency. According to him, such preparation demonstrates a responsible approach to potential crisis scenarios and is in line with the German government’s recommendations regarding the public’s preparedness for emergencies.
The minister was asked how prepared he personally was for war.
“My wife and I can easily sustain ourselves for several days. We’ve made sure we have enough water,” Pistorius said.
At the same time, he emphasized the need to deter potential enemies to ensure that no one dares to attack Germany.
“Without freedom and peace, nothing else matters. Every euro spent on this is money well spent,” the minister said.
“The world has become a more dangerous place—whether we want to admit it or not. Attacks that do not reach the level of military action—on undersea cables, in airspace, or in cyberspace—have increased significantly in recent years. The better we equip our soldiers, the stronger our deterrent effect is, and the less likely it is that we will be attacked,” Pistorius said.
He made these remarks in an interview withSpiegel.
Pistorius warned of a threat to Germany posed by social division.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius called for an increased presence of the Bundeswehr, as well as the armed forces of other European NATO member states, in the Arctic region. He attributed this to U.S. territorial claims on Greenland, as well as growing security challenges from Russia and China.
