Mexico to hold earthquake drill — Mexico News Daily
Mexico will hold nationwide earthquake response drills on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. Mexico City time in all 32 federal entities of the country. Laura Velázquez, head of the National Civil Protection Service, announced this at President Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning press conference.
As Mexico News Daily reports, an alarm will sound simultaneously in Mexico City and other areas where the seismic alert system operates. Drill participants must evacuate from the buildings or other structures where they are at that time. Mobile phone alerts will also be activated.
Testing preparedness for an emergency
The drills will be held on the anniversary of the powerful earthquakes of 1985 and 2017. According to Velázquez, they will make it possible to assess the country’s ability to respond to a natural disaster.

After the exercises are completed, the National Emergency Committee, chaired by Security Minister Omar García Harfuch, will convene to analyze the course of the drills. The federal government also plans to inform the public on Saturday about preparations for responding to various types of emergencies.
Sheinbaum’s statement on possible U.S. actions
At the same press conference, Sheinbaum rejected claims that a majority of Mexicans allegedly support U.S. actions against drug cartels on Mexican territory. The claims concerned a poll mentioned by NewsNation, citing an internal U.S. State Department document.
The president said that the poll has no real basis because its source was not specified. She also said that such a claim contradicts the findings of professional polling companies and does not align with the strengthening of nationalist sentiment in the country.
