NACOC urges NPP not to politicize cocaine seizure — MyJoyOnline
In Ghana, Alexander Twum-Barimah, deputy director-general of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), urged the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to politicize the case involving a cocaine seizure in France linked to the country. MyJoyOnline reports.
Statement by the NACOC official
Speaking on the Newsfile program on September 25, Twum-Barimah said this was not the first case of cocaine or other illicit drugs being intercepted at points of entry into or exit from Ghana. According to him, numerous drug-related cases have already been recorded in the country, so the latest case should not be viewed as an issue of party confrontation.
The official cited examples of previous drug interceptions. According to him, 56 kilograms of cocaine were intercepted in Ghana in 2018, while a similar case occurred in 2019. He also mentioned September 3, 2020, when a person bringing heroin from Kenya was detected at an airport.

Seizure in France and NPP reaction
The statement came after French customs seized nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine at the port of Dunkirk. According to reports, the drugs were concealed in a container of plastic waste sent from Ghana.
Six people appeared before a court in Accra in connection with the case. The NPP called for the removal from office of the heads of state agencies responsible for port security, customs and drug control. The party said the shipment raised questions about how the drugs could have left Ghana unnoticed.
