NATO estimates that Iran has retained up to 60% of its missile capabilities — The Independent

NATO estimates that Iran has retained up to 60% of its missile capabilities — The Independent

According to NATO intelligence estimates, Iran still possesses at least 60% of its pre-war missile arsenal and retains the capability to strike U.S. allies in the Middle East.

This is reported by The Independent, citing sources within the Alliance. NATO also believes that some of Iran’s underground facilities may have survived or been quickly restored.

This information casts doubt on statements by President Donald Trump and Pentagon Chief Pete Hagset that the Iranian military has been “crushed” and “destroyed,” the publication’s source noted. Additionally, according to NATO intelligence, some of Iran’s underground nuclear facilities may have survived or could be quickly restored.

“Tehran’s strength lies in its asymmetric capabilities—ballistic and cruise missiles, drones, sea mines, cyber operations, and proxy groups,” explained Frank Rose, a former assistant to the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Arms Control.

Even a weakened Iran, he said, is capable of disrupting maritime shipping and attacking energy infrastructure in the Persian Gulf. A particular threat, as Rose noted, is posed by a “mosquito fleet” of armed speedboats that are difficult to track—with their help, Tehran maintains a de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, despite the losses suffered by its navy.

Earlier, Trump announced the continuation of the military campaign against Iran

U.S. Central Command stated that Iran has been significantly weakened following the conflict with the United States and is no longer capable of operating with its former military might. Officials in Washington assert that strikes against Iran’s infrastructure and allies will have long-term consequences.

The Strait of Hormuz has once again come to a near standstill

The U.S. military also struck the vessel Touska, which was attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz under the Iranian flag despite the blockade.

Recall that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu does not consider the war with Iran to be over.
