In France, the world's oldest dog died a few weeks after its owner — France 24

A Papillon named Lazar, believed to be the world’s oldest dog, died in France at the age of 31.

This was reported by France 24.

The dog had been experiencing significant age-related health issues recently—he had completely lost his hearing and vision, and spent most of the day sleeping. Despite this, he remained quite lively and active during the rest of the day.

Documents were submitted to establish a world record, but it is not yet known for certain whether it has been officially recognized.

According to Anne-Sophie Moyon, an employee of an animal welfare charity, the remarkable dog was born on December 4, 1995.

Lazar spent almost his entire long life with one family and his loving owner, who recently passed away.

The dog was found in the home next to the body of his deceased owner, after which the animal was temporarily placed in a local shelter.

Later, the unique dog was noticed by a woman named Ophelia Budol, who, incidentally, turned out to be a year younger than the dog himself.

At first, the woman planned to find a pet for her mother, but Lazar’s story moved her so deeply that she took him in, despite already having two cats.

The new owner recalled the moment they met at the shelter with particular warmth.

“I sat next to him for half an hour, and then I said, ‘Listen, if no one wants to take him, I don’t mind—as long as he gets along with the cats,’” the woman said.

At the ripe old age of 30 years and 5 months, the little dog required daily, meticulous care and wore diapers constantly.

At the same time, Budol emphasized that her pet had an incredible zest for life and surprised everyone with his cheerful disposition.

“He really has a very charming personality,” the woman shared.
