Nigeria’s INEC releases final list of presidential candidates for the 2027 elections

According to Premium Times Nigeria, Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released in Abuja the final list of presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the general elections scheduled for January 16, 2027. The list includes 18 candidates nominated by political parties.

The document was signed by the commission’s secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony. The presidential candidates include Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress, and Peter Gregory Obi of the Nigerian Democratic Congress.

The list also includes Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party, Oluseyi Makinde of the Allied People’s Movement, Donald Duke of the People’s Redemption Party, Chibuzor Okereke of the Labour Party, and Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress.

Two women running for president are Okwori Ada Elizabeth Fredrick of the National Democratic Party and Okereke Nkem Esther of the National Redemption Party.

Gender distribution

According to INEC, among the 18 presidential candidates, 16 are men, or 88.9%, and two are women, or 11.1%. Among the vice-presidential candidates, there are 14 men and four women: Oforidile Peace Egobia of APP, Nafisat Usaku Abubakar of DLA, Hajja Bintu Konto of LP, and Patience Ndidi Kaye of YPP.

The list also states that Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi is running alongside Atiku Abubakar, Kashim Shettima alongside Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Mohammed Rabiu Kwankwaso alongside Peter Gregory Obi. The commission also published final lists of candidates for Nigeria’s Senate and House of Representatives.
