Australian tourist dies on Nusa Penida near Bali
An Australian tourist has died on the island of Nusa Penida near Bali after falling from a steep cliff near the popular Kelingking Beach. ABC News Australia reported this, citing local police and rescue services.
Fall from a cliff
According to police and emergency services, the woman was found on the southern side of the Kelingking Beach cliff on Saturday morning local time. Rescuers were dispatched to the scene, but the woman fell from the steep cliff before they could reach her.
Chakra Negara, coordinator of the Nusa Penida Alert unit, said that, according to preliminary information from the scene, the fall occurred at about 9:00 a.m. He said the tourist was looking for an independent route to the edge of the cliff, slipped and fell into a ravine.
Klungkung police representative Iptu I Dewa Nyoman Alit Purnawibawa told Bali Times that the woman's body was found on the beach. It was removed from the coast by rescuers and police officers.

Evacuation due to high tide
According to Negara, evacuation by sea was cancelled because of high tide. The deceased woman's body was carried up narrow, steep stairs to the Kelingking Beach viewing platform. The operation lasted about an hour and a half.
During a medical examination at the Griya Medica clinic on Nusa Penida, the woman was found to have several fractures and other injuries. Kelingking Beach is one of the popular destinations among tourists in Bali: its viewing platform is located on a coastal cliff about 180 metres high.
Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade was asked to comment on the tourist's death.
