Nigeria’s NDLEA reports seizure of cannabis and other drugs in seven states
In Nigeria, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reported the seizure of large quantities of cannabis and other prohibited substances during operations in seven states — Kano, Plateau, Edo, Ondo, Kaduna, Bayelsa and Delta. As Premium Times Nigeria reports, the agency also said that several people had been detained.
Cannabis in forests and cars
In Edo State, NDLEA officers, according to the agency, destroyed 4,832.56 kg of cannabis found on plots in the Usen, Igwe-Oke and Ogbohi forests. These plots are located in the Ovia South-West, Owan East and Owan West local government areas. During the operation on Friday, NDLEA said, 39-year-old Sunday Segun was detained.
In Bayelsa State, the agency said it seized 110 bags of cannabis with a total weight of 876 kg in Owomi, Yenagoa city, and detained four people. In Ondo State, NDLEA officers raided a residence on Oke-Iya — Ijoka Road in Akure and, according to the agency, found 186 kg of cannabis in the trunk of a Toyota Avalon. NDLEA claims that 58-year-old Paul Ogbuwala was allegedly preparing to transport the cargo to Jos for distribution.
In Kaduna, the agency reported the detention of Hannah Michael with 369.6 kg of cannabis.

Capsules, tablets and injections
In Kano, NDLEA officers raided the Sabon-Gari area and, according to the agency, detained 20-year-old Saidu Adamu. He allegedly had 785,000 pregabalin capsules weighing 669.425 kg. Another suspect, 28-year-old Habibu Sabitu, was detained after a vehicle was stopped on the Zaria — Kano — Hadejia Road, NDLEA reported. According to the agency, 1,700 diazepam tablets were hidden in loaves of bread.
In Jos, Plateau State, NDLEA said it seized 157,100 tramadol capsules from 51-year-old Chinedu Uzor at Katako Market. In Delta State, during separate operations in Ughelli and Asaba, the agency said pentazocine injections, codeine syrup, tramadol, diazepam, flunitrazepam and MDMA were seized. Some of the substances, NDLEA said, were hidden in music speakers; the agency reported the detention of Emeka Oji and Chukwuebuka Anedi.
NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa commended the officers involved in the operations and called for continued efforts against drug trafficking and cannabis cultivation.
