Four herders reported killed in two attacks in Nigeria’s Plateau State
At least four herders were killed in two attacks in Nigeria’s Plateau State, according to Premium Times Nigeria. According to representatives of local communities and the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), 68 cattle were also killed.
Attack in the Mangu area
Community representatives said that armed men attacked a grazing area in Alogom, in the Mangu Local Government Area, on Saturday. They said that three herders were killed, several other people are missing, and 50 cattle were also killed.
Hashimu Yahaya, coordinator of the Fulbe-Fulani Development Association in Mangu, identified the dead as 18-year-old Garzali Shaibu, 14-year-old Bashiru Yakubu, and 15-year-old Salim Abubakar. He described the attack as brutal and unprovoked.

Incident near Nyerwe
Ibrahim Babayo, head of MACBAN’s Plateau State chapter, confirmed reports of the attack in Mangu and said that the herders were shot while grazing cattle. According to him, it was preceded by an attack on Thursday near Nyerwe, in the Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area, where herder Yakubu Ishaku and 18 cattle were killed.
Babayo claims that the attacks targeted Fulbe herders and their livelihoods. He said that MACBAN had informed the Department of State Services and Operation Safe Haven, a military structure responsible for maintaining peace in Plateau State and parts of neighboring states. The association representative called on communities not to resort to reprisals and demanded an investigation into the attacks.
Premium Times Nigeria notes that the identities of the attackers and the motives for the killings could not be independently established at the time of publication. The outlet also did not receive a comment from Operation Safe Haven spokesperson Polycarp Oteh.
