Armed attackers kill police inspector at official’s residence in Nigeria
In Owerri, the capital of Nigeria’s Imo State, armed attackers killed police inspector Henry Effiong, who was guarding the residence of the state commissioner for trade and investment, Rex Anunobi. The attack occurred on Monday morning, Premium Times Nigeria reports.
Attack circumstances
According to the publication’s sources, the attackers first disarmed the inspector, took his rifle and phones, and then killed him. Imo State police spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed the officer’s death in a statement on Wednesday but did not name him.
State Police Commissioner Audu Bosso ordered an investigation into the circumstances of the attack and the identification of those involved. The deputy commissioner of police responsible for the State Criminal Investigation Department and the head of the New Owerri area police station arrived at the scene. They carried out the necessary investigative actions and collected and secured physical evidence. The body of the deceased inspector was taken to the morgue.

Detentions in the case
Police reported the detention of two men whom they believe to be connected to the inspector’s killing. According to Okoye, 31-year-old Olivia Patrick and 25-year-old TenkGod Morris were detained at the scene shortly after the report of the incident was received.
The case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. Police said they are continuing to search for other people who fled and called on Imo State residents to report information that could assist the investigation.
