Nigeria begins repairs and upgrade of NYSC camp in Ekiti State
The authorities of Ekiti State in Nigeria have begun repairs and modernization of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Emure-Ise-Orun. Nineteen projects are being carried out simultaneously at the facility to improve living conditions for corps members assigned to the state for the mandatory orientation programme.
As Premium Times Nigeria reports, the state Commissioner for Youth Development, Gold Adedayo, inspected the progress of the work on Wednesday, September 9. According to him, once the repairs are completed, the camp will have a more modern appearance and better conditions for conducting orientation programmes.
Facilities being repaired
The facilities inspected by the commissioner include a gatehouse, registration centre, five male and seven female hostels, a dining hall, kitchen, storage facilities, perimeter fence and the residence of the NYSC state coordinator. Adedayo positively assessed the quality and pace of the work and noted the contractors’ readiness to complete it within the established deadline.

Reason for the upgrade and timeline
In July 2024, Governor Biodun Oyebanji instructed the Bureau of Special Projects to conduct an inspection of the technical condition of the camp’s buildings after toilet facilities collapsed. According to the governor, the inspection results were to determine the authorities’ further actions regarding the camp facilities and improvements to living conditions there.
At the end of August, Oyebanji approved comprehensive repairs and modernization of the facility. His adviser on special projects, Olubunmi Talabi, said that all work is being carried out in parallel under the bureau’s supervision. The authorities expect to complete it within two months so that corps members can resume activities at the camp on schedule. Solar lighting is also planned for the buildings and grounds of the camp. Local contractors and artisans have been involved in the work.
