Police in Nigeria rescue abducted Methodist cleric
Police in Nigeria’s Ebonyi State reported the rescue of abducted Methodist cleric Ede Sandi. According to Premium Times Nigeria, he was abducted on September 9 at approximately 11:55 p.m. in Ndulo-Amofia in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area.
Abduction circumstances
State police spokesperson Joshua Ukandu said that two armed men stopped the cleric’s vehicle in front of his church, forced him out and took him away on a motorcycle. After receiving the report, law enforcement officers mobilized and began pursuing the abductors.
According to Ukandu, when police officers approached the suspects, they abandoned the man and fled. The cleric was found near St. James Secondary School in Amofia, and his vehicle was also recovered. Police said Ede Sandi had been reunited with his family, while the search for the attackers continues.

Separate operation
In another operation in the Kpirikpiri area of Mile 50, Abakaliki, law enforcement officers recovered a locally made Beretta pistol with one 9mm round. According to the police spokesperson, the operation was carried out after police received information at about 11:52 p.m. on September 7 about a possible gathering near a bakery, which police considered cult-related.
Police said that after officers arrived, those present fled and one of them left behind a bag. A pistol and a mobile phone were found inside it; police said the phone belonged to a person robbed earlier that same evening. Oshima Chisom was detained at the scene; police said he is assisting the investigation.
