The Eagle Online founder Dotun Oladipo dies in Nigeria
Dotun Samson Oladipo, the founder of online outlet The Eagle Online, a member and former president of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), has died in Nigeria at the age of 56. GOCOP member and Sundiata Post head Max Amuchie reported the media professional’s death in a memorial column, Premium Times Nigeria writes.
According to Amuchie, on August 25, Oladipo sent him a news bulletin as late as 2:50 p.m. Later, the author saw a message about his colleague’s death in the GOCOP WhatsApp group. Amuchie said the information was confirmed to him by the organization’s president, Danlami Nmodu, and vice president, Olumide Iyanda.
Work in online media
After a career in traditional media, Oladipo founded The Eagle Online, which Amuchie described as one of Nigeria’s successful online news platforms. In the columnist’s assessment, Oladipo helped other publishers develop digital media businesses, shared professional ideas and supported colleagues.

Amuchie recalled that around 2019, Oladipo supported fundraising for GOCOP member Ben Bright-Mkpuma, who had kidney failure. According to the author, GOCOP added funds to the amount collected, and 1 million Nigerian naira was given to Bright-Mkpuma’s family. After Bright-Mkpuma’s death, Oladipo ensured the organization’s official representation at the funeral.
Farewell in Lagos
The author also noted that Oladipo supported colleagues personally: in particular, he organized a donation drive after Amuchie’s parents died in 2025. The Eagle Online regularly published Amuchie’s syndicated column, The Sunday Stew.
The farewell ceremony for Oladipo will begin on September 10 with a service of songs at the Daystar Christian Centre headquarters in Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos. The burial is scheduled there on September 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
