Three kidnapping suspects detained and two people rescued in Nigeria
In Ondo State in southwestern Nigeria, police reported the detention of three men suspected of kidnapping and the rescue of two victims. During an operation in the Isua-Akoko area, law enforcement officers said they seized 1.5 million naira, a motorcycle and food supplies.
Operation in the forest
As Premium Times Nigeria reports, the operation began on September 11 after information was received about a group of suspected kidnappers hiding in a forest along the Ifira-Idoani route and, according to police, planning to come out to collect a ransom.
Officers from the Isua police division acted jointly with representatives of the Ondo State security network Amotekun and Agbe-Koya. They set up an ambush on the group’s suspected route. According to state police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh, at about 11:30 p.m., around four armed men emerged from the forest and, after noticing the security forces, opened fire.
Law enforcement officers said they repelled the attack and freed two kidnapped people — Owolabi Patrick and Asoto Dada. According to police, they were not injured. During the clash, the suspected kidnappers sustained gunshot wounds and fled into the forest, Jimoh said.

Further detentions
On September 13, law enforcement officers received information about three suspects who had been spotted on the Idoani road. Police reported the detention of Abdullahi Abubakar, Ibrahim Abubakar and Oseni Abubakar, who live in the Akunnu area. According to Jimoh, two of those detained had leg injuries.
The freed men arrived at the police station and, according to the police statement, identified the detainees as the people who kidnapped them. The victims also linked a Bajaj motorcycle, previously seized by law enforcement officers, to the case.
Police Commissioner Felix Ohagwu ordered that the case be transferred to the special anti-kidnapping unit in Akure for further investigation and to identify all possible individuals involved.
