Nicosia plans to build an 8,000-seat stadium — Cyprus Mail
Turkish Cypriot authorities have announced plans to build a new football stadium in Nicosia, Cyprus. According to Cyprus Mail, the arena is to be built on the site of the current Atatürk Stadium, on the outskirts of the Göçmenköy district. The project envisages 8,000 spectator seats, 25 VIP boxes and parking for approximately 700 cars.
UEFA criteria
Ünal Üstel stated that the new stadium must meet UEFA Category 4 criteria — the highest level of certification for football arenas in Europe. According to him, it will be the largest investment in sport in the past 40 years, and the complex will be used not only on match days.
The project also includes modern indoor training facilities, changing rooms, medical facilities, media infrastructure and offices for Turkish Cypriot sports federations. Üstel said the federations want to be brought together in one complex to facilitate their cooperation and expand opportunities for athletes.

Multifunctional complex
Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, who attended the presentation, described the future facility as a multifunctional sports complex integrated with Nicosia. According to him, the stadium is planned to be used throughout the year.
Yılmaz also reported on environmental sustainability features included in the project: solar panels above the parking area and a rainwater harvesting system for irrigating the pitch. According to him, the complex can be used as a safe gathering place for people in the event of a disaster.
