Congresswoman Salazar Supports Trump’s Restrictions on Three Media Outlets — The Hill
In the United States, Republican Congresswoman from Florida María Elvira Salazar supported President Donald Trump’s decision to bar journalists from CNN, Politico and MS NOW from accessing the White House. On CBS News, she said that Trump has his own style of communicating with the media and will decide for himself whom to speak with, The Hill reports.
Salazar’s position
Salazar said that with social media and many other platforms available, journalists will still have opportunities to cover the president’s activities. She also called Trump the most accessible president to the media in recent years and contrasted him with former President Joe Biden.
The congresswoman, who worked for 30 years at the Spanish-language media outlet Telemundo as well as CNN Español and Univision, expressed the view that American journalism is currently not as strong as it was at the beginning of her career. At the same time, she suggested that Trump would communicate with different journalists even if he did not allow certain media representatives access to a particular location.

The ban and media reaction
Trump announced the ban on Truth Social on Friday, saying it took effect immediately because of what he claimed was the outlets’ persistent spread of “fake news.” The president also warned that the restrictions could affect other media outlets in the future. On Saturday, CNN, Politico and MS NOW journalists were denied access to the White House grounds.
All three media outlets condemned the decision. CNN raised the possibility of legal action if Trump does not allow its journalists into the White House. MS NOW said it would take all necessary measures to protect its journalists’ constitutional right to cover the president’s activities.
Politico rejected Trump’s claim that the outlet had allegedly received $8 million in government subsidies through Politico Pro subscriptions, calling the statements false and already debunked. Former White House Correspondents’ Association president Weijia Jiang said the media’s reaction to the ban was connected to serious public concern, rather than offense at the decision itself. She also warned that such a move could set a precedent for future administrations.
