In Germany, a man attacked people with a knife and was killed
In the German city of Mannheim, following a knife attack that left two people seriously injured, the suspect died during a police operation.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening.
According to the Mannheim police and public prosecutor’s office, as well as the Criminal Police Office of the State of Baden-Württemberg, a 53-year-old man stabbed a 26-year-old woman and a 76-year-old man in an apartment in the city center.
The woman was in critical condition—she underwent resuscitation and emergency surgery. The man sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
When police arrived at the scene, officers demanded that the man put down the knife and open the door, but he refused and, according to the investigation, even threatened to jump out the window.
The police then entered the apartment and detained him using physical force.
Shortly after his arrest, the man lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital, where he died a few hours later. The cause of death has not yet been officially determined, and an autopsy has been ordered.
Investigators also note that the motive for the attack remains unknown.
Law enforcement officials have appealed to potential witnesses to provide any information regarding the incident.

Germany is seeing a rise in the number of knife attacks. According to the German Society for Trauma Surgery, more than 3,300 cases have been recorded over the past 10 years, and the number of serious injuries has increased by approximately 50%.
