Amid the scandal, the Polish Sejm is advised to focus on future relations with Kyiv — Polsat
Ursula Pasławska, a member of the coalition Polish Peasants’ Party, stated that stripping Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle is a moral victory for Warsaw.
The lawmaker called on Polish authorities not to give in to emotions and to focus on future relations with Kyiv.
According to the Polish politician, now that the decision to revoke the highest state award has been made, it is no longer possible or sensible to reverse this step.
Instead, Warsaw should shift its focus to practical issues of cooperation.
“We must focus on the conference on Ukraine’s reconstruction and on future responses to similar events, because I have no doubt that they will occur,” she said.
Pasławska emphasized that Poland’s participation in the reconstruction efforts of its neighboring country must remain a key priority, given the enormous amount of aid that Polish society has provided to Ukraine and its citizens since the start of the war.
At the same time, she added that holding any international meetings dedicated to infrastructure reconstruction without the involvement of the official authorities in Kyiv is ineffective.
“Such a conference will not be productive or creative. We have achieved a moral victory, but we will only be able to assess it with time. Throughout history, we have quarreled with our own people, with our allies, and with our neighbors, and this has undoubtedly not been to our advantage,” she noted.
During the broadcast, the lawmaker was also asked about her reaction to the remarks by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga, who had previously promised a symmetrical response to actions that the Ukrainian side considers unfriendly.
The deputy chair of the PSL is convinced that Polish diplomats should not respond in such a harsh tone.
“As a country with greater experience and a longer history of democracy in the European Union, we must not allow ourselves to be drawn into such emotional games. We cannot behave like the Ukrainians. We must act in accordance with Poland’s national interests,” she emphasized.
In addition, the Polish parliamentarian recalled Ukraine’s path toward European integration, noting that the current crisis in relations could negatively impact this process.
In her view, recurring conflicts over historical figures or the names given to Ukrainian military units could exacerbate tensions between Warsaw and Kyiv.
“Ukrainians must also realize that such behavior does not bring them closer to the European Union, as Poland will have a lot to say on this matter,” she added.
Ursula Pasławska made these remarks during an appearance on Polsat News.
The Speaker of the Polish Sejm suggested that Zelenskyy might not come to Gdańsk
Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman announced that he had returned the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, which he received in 2011 for promoting regional cooperation between Ukrainian and Polish cities.
On June 20, former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko also announced that he was renouncing his Polish state order, emphasizing that this step was not directed against the Polish people; at the same time, he also made critical remarks about incumbent President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Earlier, Zelenskyy had sent Navrotsky the Order of the White Eagle via Nova Poshta.
Following this, Leonid Kuchma declined the Polish Order of the White Eagle.
Ukraine’s third president, Viktor Yushchenko, also declined the Polish Order of the White Eagle.
In addition, Borys Tarasyuk will return the Polish order due to Navrotsky’s policies.
