Man Sentenced to Life in Prison in Germany for Running Over Protesters in Munich — dpa
In Germany, a court sentenced a 25-year-old Afghan citizen to life in prison after finding him guilty of fatally running over demonstrators in Munich. The tragedy occurred in February 2025 and resulted in fatalities.
The court concluded that the defendant intentionally drove into the crowd during the protest. After reviewing all the evidence, he was sentenced to the most severe punishment—life imprisonment.
According to reports, the 25-year-old Afghan man, who is identified only as Farhad N. in accordance with German data protection regulations, was arrested immediately after the attack on February 13, 2025, during a labor union demonstration.
On Thursday, August 6, he was found guilty of two counts of murder and 23 counts of attempted murder, as well as other crimes. The court found that he bore “particularly grave” culpability, meaning he will likely not be eligible for parole after 15 years, as is typically the case in Germany.
The court also found that the man sought to attack and kill randomly selected people in Germany as a reaction to the situation in Islamic countries and to prove that he was a “good Muslim.”
