In Germany, the search for three people at the site of a residential building collapse is now in its second day — Tagesschau
A large-scale search and rescue operation has been underway for the second day in a row in the German city of Görlitz, located near the border with Poland.
This was reported by Tagesschau.
The emergency services were called in following a powerful explosion that completely destroyed a section of a three-story residential building near the train station.
Currently, three people—two Romanian citizens and one Bulgarian citizen—may be trapped under the rubble.
The incident occurred on Monday evening when a powerful explosion instantly destroyed several apartments that were being used as guest accommodations.
Specialists were able to quickly eliminate the associated threat at the scene. The gas leak at the accident site was stopped, and some residents of the evacuated nearby buildings were allowed to return home.
Despite the continuous work of equipment and search dogs, the situation in the disaster zone remains critical. Fire and rescue services acknowledge that the chances of finding survivors alive are diminishing, but “hope dies last.”
To speed up the clearing of dangerous debris, Polish colleagues have arrived to assist the German rescuers.
Representatives of the police and diplomatic missions have already identified the foreigners whose fate remains unknown.
It has been reported that among the missing are two Romanian women, aged 25 and 26, who had arrived in the city as tourists and have not been in contact since the explosion.
The husband of one of them, also a Romanian citizen, was in a supermarket at the time of the incident and therefore remained unharmed. Two other guests of the other destroyed apartment also miraculously survived, as they were simply outside the building at the time.
