The number of traffic accidents involving electric scooters has risen by 38% in Germany

In Germany in 2025, police recorded approximately 16,500 traffic accidents involving electric scooters in which people were injured or killed. This is 38% more than the previous year.

According to the Federal Statistical Office, 38 people died in such accidents, compared to 27 in 2024. Another approximately 1,900 people suffered serious injuries, and more than 16,200 sustained minor injuries.

More than 82% of those injured or killed were electric scooter riders. Young people were most frequently involved in accidents: more than half of the victims were under 25 years old, and nearly 84% were under 45.

Statistics also show that electric scooter riders were primarily at fault in 38.1% of collisions with cars, 74.3% of accidents involving cyclists, and 88.7% of incidents involving pedestrians.

Among the most common causes of traffic accidents were improper use of roadways or sidewalks, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol. The majority of these accidents occurred in large cities.
