In Germany, the perpetrator of the terrorist attack at a Christmas market was sentenced to life in prison
The Magdeburg Regional Court sentenced a doctorTaleb al-Abdulmohsen, an immigrant from Saudi Arabia, to life in prison for driving his car into a crowd of people at a Christmas market in December 2024.
The court found the man guilty of the attack, which killed six people and injured more than 300 others to varying degrees. The judges also determined that the crime was of exceptional gravity, which precludes early release after serving the minimum sentence.
According to the prosecution, the attack was carefully planned and was motivated by personal, rather than ideological, reasons. A psychiatric evaluation determined that the defendant has narcissistic personality disorder and an acute need for attention.
Taleb al-Abdulmohsen had lived in Germany for about 20 years, worked as a psychiatrist, and presented himself as an activist for women’s rights in Saudi Arabia.
