Spectator runs onto Yankee Stadium field in New York with Palestinian flag
In New York, United States, a spectator ran onto the field at Yankee Stadium with a Palestinian flag during a game between the New York Yankees and the New York Mets. As the Jerusalem Post reports, citing The Athletic, the incident occurred at 9:11 p.m. on Friday, when the United States marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.
Incident during the game
The spectator entered the field from the section behind left field and ran toward center field. He briefly evaded police officers and stadium security staff, but was tackled on the outfield grass and detained.
As the spectator was escorted out beyond the center-field fence, fans seated above the Mets bullpen booed him and threw beer cans in his direction. Later, chants of “USA” began in the stands. According to The Athletic, the New York Yankees declined to comment on the incident.

Commemorating the victims of the attacks
The game was interrupted in the top of the seventh inning. At that point, the Mets had loaded the bases, Francisco Lindor was at bat, there were two outs and a full count, and the Yankees led 5–2. After play resumed, Lindor hit a ball that was caught, ending the inning.
Before the game, the Yankees commemorated the nearly 3,000 people killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks. Members of the 2001 Yankees roster, including Derek Jeter, also took part in the pregame ceremonies.
