Two men have been arrested in Norway on suspicion of supplying weapons to Hamas
Norwegian law enforcement authorities have detained two men suspected of involvement in the supply of weapons that may have been intended for the terrorist organization Hamas.
This was reported by NRK.
According to Marianne Aune, a prosecutor with the Norwegian Security Service (PST), the arrests took place on May 28 at two different locations near the city of Bergen.
According to investigators, last summer the suspects may have been involved in organizing the shipment of weapons to one of the European countries. Law enforcement officials believe that these weapons could have been used in the future to attack Jewish community sites.
The Norwegian Security Service reported that both detainees are Norwegian citizens but claim to be of Palestinian origin.
During the court hearing, the prosecution requested that the suspects be detained for four weeks, two of which are to be spent in solitary confinement.
The men have been charged under the section of the law regarding participation in a terrorist organization or aiding its activities. The maximum penalty for this charge is up to six years in prison.
