Two Israeli women arrested in Paphos with 5,800 cigarettes — Cyprus Mail

Customs officers at Paphos Airport in Cyprus on Monday stopped the luggage of two Israeli women for inspection. As Cyprus Mail reports, the officers acted after receiving information and found a significant quantity of cigarettes from duty-free shops in their belongings.

What was found in the luggage

In the first passenger's luggage, officers found 19 cartons containing 200 cigarettes each. Another ten cartons, also containing 200 cigarettes each, were found in the second woman's belongings. The total number of cigarettes discovered was 5,800: 3,800 from the first woman and 2,000 from the second.

Out-of-court settlement

Both women were arrested. They were later released following an out-of-court settlement: one paid €1,140 and the other €600. The cigarettes were confiscated and, according to the publication, are to be destroyed.
