In Pakistan, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari wished Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi a successful continuation of his trip through Sindh province. Afridi thanked the politician and said that democracy entails freedom of political activity and expression, judicial independence, recognition of the popular mandate, an independent parliament, and a free press.

As Dawn reports, Bhutto-Zardari published a post on the social network X after Afridi's visit to Larkana. He welcomed Afridi to the city, which he called the city of martyrs, and wished him the best for the remainder of his Sindh tour.
The PPP chairman also said that politics must return to tolerance, respect, and coexistence as the foundation of democracy. In response, Afridi noted that the value of democracy lies, among other things, in freedom of political activity and expression, judicial independence, recognition of the voters' mandate, an independent parliament, and press freedom.

PTI campaign and political context
Afridi arrived in Sindh for a five-day visit at the beginning of the week. He is conducting a mobilization campaign in the province ahead of a nationwide PTI protest scheduled for September 27. The party is demanding the release of its founder, Imran Khan, and his immediate medical treatment at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad.
Afridi also expressed hope that a large number of people would gather in Karachi and Hyderabad following PTI's call. The exchange of statements took place amid signs of improving relations between the PPP and PTI at the federal level.
Last month, Bhutto-Zardari said that a genuine alliance between the PPP and the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz was impossible until complaints regarding alleged violations and rigging in the recent elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir were addressed. The PPP has also established formal contact with PTI and offered cooperation in parliament. At present, the PPP is the main ally of the ruling party, while PTI is in opposition.
