Pakistan appoints Islamabad police chief as NCCIA director
The federal government of Pakistan has transferred the inspector general of police for the Islamabad Capital Territory, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, to the post of director general of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). The decision takes effect immediately and will remain in force until further orders.
Appointment to the NCCIA
As Dawn reports, Rizvi is a Grade 20 officer. The federal government carried out his transfer and appointment pursuant to Section 29(3) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016, as amended by the 2025 law, as well as Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act 1973.
Section 29(3) allows the government to appoint the head of the NCCIA for a three-year term without the possibility of an extension.

New police chief of the capital
The post of inspector general of police for the Islamabad Capital Territory, vacated by Rizvi, will be taken by retired Captain Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry. According to a separate notification, he is serving in the government of Punjab province.
Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi was appointed inspector general of police of Islamabad on March 29, 2024. Before that, he served in Punjab.
