Pakistan police may face terrorism law charges over under-trial prisoner escape
In Rawalpindi, Pakistan, police have decided to register cases under the Anti-Terrorism Act against responsible officials if an under-trial prisoner escapes from police custody. In addition, strict disciplinary measures are planned against those responsible.

The relevant instructions were issued during a meeting at police headquarters by City Police Officer Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera, Dawn reports. The meeting was attended by senior police officers, heads of units and police stations, as well as officials responsible for security at Adiala, Bakshi Khana, district and sessions courts.
Sukhera ordered the use of proper handcuffs when bringing accused persons to court. The use of ropes or iron chains for this purpose was banned. Police officers will also not be allowed to transport suspects to court in private cars or on motorcycles, even if it concerns a single person.
According to the city police officer, personnel must focus on the security, transfer and movement of prisoners. He stressed that negligence will not be tolerated.

Control at police stations
One of the main topics of the meeting was the escape of under-trial prisoners from police custody. A special anti-corruption campaign was also discussed separately. Sukhera declared zero tolerance for personnel involved in corruption and promised to respond immediately to relevant complaints.
He also noted that suspects must not be taken out of cells. The muharrar, the responsible employee of a police station, will be accountable for compliance with security procedures. No unauthorized persons should be present in the room during interrogations, and the illegal detention of people in police stations and cells will not be allowed.
Sukhera stated that Rawalpindi police are working to prevent crime and protect citizens under a comprehensive strategy at the level of police stations, units and divisions. Field personnel are provided with technical and logistical support to prevent crime and counter criminal elements.
