15 suspects detained in Pakistan over trader’s kidnapping
In Landi Kotal, Pakistan, police reported the detention of 15 suspects in the case involving the kidnapping of local trader Haji Zarif, also known as Haji Landai. According to law enforcement, the elderly man was abducted on August 7.
Progress of the investigation
According to Dawn, police also found the vehicle in which the trader was abducted. A police representative said that the whereabouts of the direct kidnappers are being tracked using modern technology.
He said investigators obtained important information after tracking the mobile numbers of the alleged key figures in the case. Police believe they may be in Punjab province. Law enforcement officials also said that the evidence collected indicates the possible involvement of local criminals, as well as people from Peshawar and other cities, whom police described as repeat offenders in kidnapping cases.

Police are treating the case as a kidnapping for ransom, as, according to their information, the abductors demanded a substantial sum of money from the trader’s relatives. Law enforcement rejected accusations from the man’s relatives, protesters and some local residents that police were involved in the case.
Return of dam guards
Separately, police reported that three guards of the Jabba Dam in Jamrud, who disappeared about two weeks ago, returned home in good health on Wednesday morning. The investigation into the circumstances of their abduction is ongoing, and no group has claimed responsibility.
Work at the Jabba Dam site was halted on September 5. Contractors cited security concerns.
