The Pentagon wants to rename the operation against Iran due to the threat of a breakdown in the ceasefire
The Pentagon is discussing the possibility of renaming the U.S. military operation against Iran in the event of a complete breakdown of the ceasefire. The mission’s new name could be “Sledgehammer.”
This was reported by NBC News.
According to sources, Washington fears that the truce between the parties may not hold, and the conflict could once again escalate on a large scale.
Currently, the U.S. operation against Iran is called Epic Fury. Meanwhile, last year, following U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, the name Operation Midnight Hammer was used.
As NBC News notes, a possible change in the operation’s name is not only symbolic but also tied to legal and political considerations. Specifically, this concerns the U.S. administration’s authority to conduct military operations without separate congressional approval.
Against the backdrop of an unstable truce between Washington and Tehran, the U.S. continues to build up its military presence in the Middle East. The U.S. is deploying additional air defense systems and aircraft to the region due to the risk of a new escalation.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Americans’ financial difficulties do not influence his decisions regarding Iran. According to him, the top priority for the U.S. administration remains preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
In addition, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he plans to hold an extended conversation with Chinese leader Xi Jinping regarding the war with Iran. At the same time, he emphasized that he does not consider it necessary to involve China as a mediator to resolve the conflict.
U.S. President Donald Trump is becoming increasingly frustrated with the progress of negotiations with Iran to end the conflict and is considering the possibility of resuming large-scale military operations against Tehran.
