In Perth, a man was charged with making death threats against Pauline Hanson
In Perth, Australia, 47-year-old Anton Raymond Ilyich appeared in court on charges of making death threats against One Nation party leader Pauline Hanson. The man is charged with two counts of using communication devices to make threats.
According to ABC News Australia, Ilich is accused of posting three messages on Facebook, one of which was posted on a page for One Nation members and supporters. A court in Perth heard that in one of the posts, he wrote about his intention to track down and kill Hanson.
The defendant, who represented himself in court, called his actions “stupid” and “crazy.” He stated that he had no intention of carrying out the threats and did so because he wanted to close his Facebook account.

Ilyich indicated his intention to plead guilty, but the court was informed that the case may be transferred to a higher court. The magistrate also prohibited him from contacting Pauline Hanson. The man is out on bail and is scheduled to appear before the magistrate’s court again in October. The maximum penalty for this offense is 10 years in prison.
The Australian Federal Police launched an investigation in July following a report of a suspected online death threat against a federal lawmaker. At that time, the names of the suspect and the lawmaker were not disclosed.
