In Poland, lightning struck a group of tourists in the Tatra Mountains

In the Polish Tatra Mountains, lightning struck a group of hikers who were descending Mount Giewont. Two people were injured in the incident.

This was reported by the Tatra Volunteer Rescue Service.

One person suffered severe injuries and temporarily lost consciousness. They were evacuated by helicopter to a hospital in Zakopane.

Another hiker sustained minor injuries and is being transported to a medical facility by ground transport.

Three other people in the group were unharmed.

Rescuers noted that there were difficult weather conditions near the summit—a severe thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds—which complicated the rescue operation.

In the Polish Tatra Mountains, the rescue service carried out a successful operation to bring a group of five tourists “back to civilization.”

In the Carpathians, on the slope of the Chornohora Range, an avalanche occurred while a group of skiers was there. One person was injured as a result of the incident.
