In Poland, adults attacked Ukrainian children because of their language
In Bydgoszcz, Poland, two Ukrainian children were attacked while speaking Ukrainian to each other. The victims of the assault were a 14-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy.
According to the diplomatic mission, the teenagers were simply speaking Ukrainian to each other when an unknown man and woman approached them.
Initially, according to the children, the attackers verbally abused them, using profanity and making threats based on their nationality.
However, the conflict quickly escalated into physical aggression.
“They twisted the child’s arm, broke a toy drone, and threw the pieces at the boy, causing him to suffer scratches,” the Consulate General of Ukraine in Gdańsk reported.
At present, the children’s physical health is not at risk, but they have experienced severe emotional distress following the incident.
The children’s mother immediately contacted the local police. Law enforcement officials have launched a search for those involved in the attack.
Ukrainian consular officials are in constant contact with the family and are monitoring the progress of the investigation.
The diplomatic mission emphasized that it will not allow this case to go without an appropriate legal response.
In the coming days, representatives of the Ukrainian consulate plan to meet with the leadership of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, city mayors, and police officials.
During these meetings, they plan to discuss the safety of Ukrainians in Poland and efforts to combat xenophobia.
The diplomats also stressed the need for Polish law enforcement to respond appropriately to incidents of aggression against Ukrainians.
