In Poland, former Justice Minister Ziobro is facing charges in a special court

A group of Polish Sejm deputies from the ruling coalition has initiated proceedings to hold former Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General Zbigniew Ziobro accountable for alleged violations committed while in office.

This was reported by RMF24.

The initiative was presented on April 15 by Zbigniew Kowinski, leader of the Civic Platform parliamentary club. According to him, the MPs are proposing to refer the case to the State Tribunal—a special court that hears cases involving alleged misconduct by high-ranking officials.

The motion was supported by representatives of several political forces, including Civic Platform, the Left, the Polish Peasants’ Party, and Poland 2050.

The prepared document, approximately 250 pages long, outlines 51 charges against Ziobro. Of these, 25 relate to constitutional violations, and another 26 to other potential criminal offenses.

These allegations pertain to actions taken during the period when Ziobro held government posts under the rule of the Law and Justice party.

According to procedure, at least 115 deputies must support the initiative for the State Tribunal to begin considering the case. Afterward, the Speaker of the Sejm refers it to the relevant committee, which prepares a report.

The final decision on bringing charges is made by the Sejm. This requires the support of at least three-fifths of the deputies, provided that at least half of the parliament is present.

Prior to this, former Polish Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro, who faces charges in dozens of criminal cases and has been granted political asylum in Hungary, as well as fugitive opposition MP Marcin Romanowski, were reprimanded for their absence from Sejm sessions.

The Polish National Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion with the Warsaw District Court requesting a European arrest warrant for former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro.
