In Poland, a local resident attacked a Ukrainian man with a baseball bat and fled
In the Polish city of Gliwice, law enforcement officials arrested a 46-year-old local resident for three months after he brutally beat a Ukrainian citizen with a baseball bat out of ethnic hatred.
The incident occurred due to a conflict over nationality, and the perpetrator now faces a lengthy prison sentence.
The incident took place on the evening of Saturday, June 20, while Polish and Ukrainian citizens were enjoying their evening.
An intoxicated man from another event taking place nearby approached the peaceful group. He began behaving extremely aggressively and publicly insulting those present because of their nationality.
After being told to leave the area, the offender temporarily backed off. However, he soon returned wearing a balaclava and wielding a baseball bat, intent on taking drastic action.
During the second altercation, the attacker suddenly struck a 46-year-old Ukrainian citizen, inflicting moderate bodily injury, after which he quickly fled the scene of the crime.
Polish law enforcement officers promptly identified the suspect and apprehended him “hot on his heels.” During a search, police seized the bat, which, according to investigators, was directly used during the attack.
At the time of his arrest, the suspect was heavily intoxicated.
After he sobered up, the suspect was formally charged with causing bodily injury of moderate severity and publicly insulting people on the grounds of national hatred.
The court has currently ordered that he be held in pretrial detention. The suspect in the criminal case faces up to five years in prison for his unlawful actions.
This was reported on Friday, June 26, by the Gliwice police.
