More than 10,000 kilometers of railway tracks will be modernized in Poland after 2035
Poland has unveiled a large-scale, long-term project for an integrated rail network, which will significantly reduce travel times on long-distance routes and extend service to new communities.
The project involves the construction of 4,700 km of new tracks, 2,700 km of which will be high-speed, and the modernization of 5,600 km of the existing network, with a total budget of approximately 610 billion zlotys (143.5 billion euros).
The plan, prepared by Port Polska and PKP PLK, aims to reduce travel time between major metropolitan areas—such as Wrocław, Poznań, and Gdańsk—to Warsaw to a maximum of 100 minutes. The modernization will also connect 27 medium-sized and small cities to the network, including Jastrzębie-Zdrój, which is currently the largest Polish city without train service. It is expected that the implementation of these measures will increase annual passenger traffic in the country to 720 million people by 2050.
