Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that western regions of the country are being considered for a possible permanent base for US troops. Among the locations being seriously discussed, he named Poznań, Wrocław and Bydgoszcz.
As Interia reports, the Polish minister made the statement during a visit to Dąbrowa Górnicza. According to him, the task of the Polish side is to propose the best possible locations and ensure funding, logistics and legislative preparations. At the same time, the choice of the site for the base belongs to Washington.
Trump's statements on the base
US President Donald Trump confirmed on Thursday that he is considering the possibility of establishing a permanent American base in Poland. Last month, he also said that the United States and Poland were making significant progress on this issue. Work on legislation
Kosiniak-Kamysz also commented on reports about preparations at the Ministry of National Defense for a so-called pre-war law. According to him, the draft is intended to adapt legislation to the current geopolitical situation and take into account lessons from the war in Ukraine.
According to Rzeczpospolita, the document is intended to streamline the defense management system and enable faster action even before the formal introduction of martial law. Poland's Ministry of Defense told the newspaper that the aim of the draft is to strengthen the country's defense capability, improve cooperation between the armed forces and internal security services, and adapt regulations to hybrid, cyber and disinformation threats.
