Poland sees an opportunity to transfer MiG-29s to Ukraine
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that negotiations on the possible terms for transferring MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine are ongoing. According to him, the situation is developing in a positive direction, and there is hope for a successful conclusion to the negotiations.
At the same time, the head of the Polish Defense Ministry noted that the parties still need to agree on all the details of the future transfer of the aircraft.
The minister was asked about the situation surrounding the transfer of Polish MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine in exchange for drone technology. He replied that negotiations are ongoing.
“A clear proposal is being discussed: MiGs in exchange for drones. The Ukrainians said ‘yes,’ then began to think it over. Now they’re back at the negotiating table—and that’s a good thing. I hope this proposal will be successfully finalized,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said.
This was reported by PAP.
The defense minister stated that without Poland, arms deliveries to Ukraine are impossible.
Nearly half of Poles consider military aid to Ukraine excessive.
As a reminder, there was outrage in Poland over the alleged secret transfer of scarce Patriot missiles to Ukraine.
The day before, Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that, following consultations with Prime Minister Donald Tusk, he had ordered the declassification of information regarding all Polish military deliveries to Ukraine from 2022 to 2026. He also ordered the Military Counterintelligence Service to identify those involved in the possible disclosure of state secrets.
