Poland welcomed Zelenskyy's decision not to attend the conference
On June 24, Tomasz Semoniak, Poland’s Minister-Coordinator for Special Services, called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s decision not to participate in the Conference on Ukraine’s Recovery, to be held in Gdańsk, the right one. According to him, this move is justified given the current security and organizational circumstances.
Semoniak was commenting on remarks made by Marcin Przydacz, head of the International Policy Department at the Office of the President of Poland. The politician stated that Zelenskyy’s decision not to attend the conference “makes Prime Minister Tusk a laughingstock.”
“I don’t like these posts by Przydacz. If someone is the president’s chief diplomat, he must adhere to certain rules. This isn’t some kind of backyard ping-pong match. A month ago, of course, the response would have been: it’s a shame President Zelenskyy isn’t here; he should be. Today, as Prime Minister Donald Tusk noted yesterday, under these circumstances, this is the right decision, one that helps ease tensions,” Semonyak stated.
“Prime Minister Svyrydenko, the head of government and a very important figure in Ukraine, will be attending, and there will be no tension associated with President Zelenskyy’s presence. The context of the UPA and history would have dominated this conference, because you, the journalists, would have questioned Zelenskyy about it in detail at every opportunity,” Semonyak added, according to Polsat News.
